How can I take care of my teeth if I’m wearing braces or a retainer?

+

While wearing braces or retainers you can take care of your teeth by continuing healthy oral habits such as brushing your teeth at least three times a day. This allows you to help get the food that may get caught between your braces. You should also floss daily to help reach spots your toothbrush cannot reach.

If I get braces, how long do I have to wear them?

+

The length in which a person wears braces will vary. It is different for each person and is assessed on a case-to-case basis. Treatment can last anywhere from five months to 36 months. Once braces are worn you will move to a retainer to help maintain the position of your teeth.

While wearing braces it is completely normal to experience discomfort after having them put on or adjusted. Most of the time the discomfort comes from the pressure being placed on the teeth.

+

While wearing braces, you should still visit your dentist every six months for your routine appointments. There are some instances you may need to be seen every three months.

Will my braces interfere with my school activities like sports, playing an instrument, or singing?
